America's Halftime; Pep Talk (see video)

Imagine it is the big game. It is halftime. You are with your team in the locker room and your coach, Clint Eastwood, comes in to give you the biggest pep talk of your life

If this commercial aired at this past Sunday's Super Bowl game, somehow I missed it. I think the message is an important one for me now and appropriate for anyone at any time.  We have all faced things that take us away from our path, that make us lose our focus. Things that may make us feel like we can no longer win. We all have challenges and areas where we can improve. Maybe we have been knocked down. It doesn't mean we have to stay there. We need to reach deep down and find a way to move forward. Forward to a better place, forward to fulfill our potential, forward to a place where we can heal or give to ourselves, and then to others.
The challenge for many may be health and fitness. For some it may be mending relationships. For others it may be finding a way to ask for help when it is needed.
With the current trend of obesity you could say this is America's halftime. Halftime is the time to take stock and regroup. It is the time to look at what is working and what isn't and to do something about it. This is the first time in history that the younger generation is predicted to have a shorter life span than their parents, even with all the medical interventions available. It is time to do what it takes to change this. I have already seen too many lives in my family cut short. As a parent I cannot bear the thought of the younger generation suffering with obesity-related illnesses and early deaths. It is time to meet in the locker room and have our halftime pep talk. It is time to make a comeback.

This is my halftime. Is it yours?

Imagine it is halftime at the Super Bowl and you and your team are losing. It is the biggest game of your life. It is the game you have spent a lifetime preparing for. Are you going to give up and go down easy? I hope not. The coach is preparing you for the second half. The coach wants you to do everything you can to win. The coach is going to give the pep talk that will pump you up to win. He knows that you have the skills, because he has coached you along the way. He knows you have the talent and ability. He knows that all you need now is to believe in yourself. Now imagine if that coach is yourself (with Clint Eastwood's voice). You know you have the skills, the ability, the talent. You know your biggest obstacle is your belief.

What if it is halftime and your team is winning? Is your coach going to tell you to take it easy? Do good things come easy? If you relax now the other team will win. If you have been doing what it takes to win, you need to continue doing that until the game is over. And your coach will tell you the game of life is never really over. The coach will make sure you do your best, every step of the way to make sure you win the game (in other words fulfill your potential).

So now imagine you are your own coach and I am your cheerleader. Together we can do this. We can take our team to the championship. We can take the challenge and meet it head-on. We have the gear, we can do the training day-by-day. We can take the steps together to reach our potential. Perspiration/Inspiration. We will get there, we will come out on top. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

If your challenge is health and happiness I hope to inspire you. This is the time to ask for help if you need it. Time to be part of a team with one goal in mind-- to win the game of life. Time to give our best to live our best. Take your team to victory.

Make a choice to be Healthy and Happy!
